Zavadil Farm

A landing page for the Zavadil Farmstead

John Zavadil (son of Franz and Anna who were some of the first Zavadils in America) was motivated to purchase the entire North Half of Section 29 Town 30 One West Cedar County, Nebraska appx 3.5 miles South of modern day Gavins Point Dam (that was completed in 1957). John started off by purchasing the NE 160 acres from JC and Kate Robinson jointly owned with the Westons in 1899 for $1,450. One year later in 1900 he proceeded to purchase the NW 160 acres from husband and wife LD and Betsie Sanders. 30 years later, John's son George Zavadil had an interest in operating this land and acquired the NW 160 acres section in 1927. A few years later in 1931, John sold the NE 160 acres to his other son Paul Zavadil. Fast Forward to 1949, Paul sold his NE 160 acre quarter to his brother George now effectively owning the entire North 320 acre half. George Zavadil passed away in 1963, his first born son Lawrence started operating the farm full time. Lawrence and Mary Ann along with their 7 children moved from the farm corner place off 89 7th and 55 3rd where they raised 7 kids, cattle, and farmed in March of 1967. View public drive here
