July 12, 2024 Big Sky - As crews work toward completion of TIGER grant work by the end of summer, drivers will need to plan extra time for travel through Big Sky next week starting Monday, July 15. “Please plan for delays,” the email stated.

Someone made a reddit post titled “How much is everyone paying in rent?”. We plotted 30 samples in a spreadsheet to gain a better understanding of the Bozeman rental market. The average price per bedroom was $971/mo.

6 shooter take down and replacement
Madison 8, a new eight-place, state-of-the-art D-line chairlift will replace the existing Six Shooter lift on Big Sky Resort’s north side. With the installation of the new lift, Big Sky Resort will be in a class of its own as the only North American ski resort with three bubble D-line lifts, and the only North American ski resort with two eight-place lifts. July 09, 2024 - Babb, MT. Repairs to the broken St. Mary Canal pipes that are part of the Milk River Project can begin immediately through an emergency authorization with the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Sen. Jon Tester’s office announced Friday. The St. Mary Canal near Babb diverts water from the St. Mary River to the Milk River. The river provides 18,000 people with municipal drinking water and feeds one million people annually, according to the Milk River Joint Board of Control.
July 09, 2024 - Helena, MT. The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that more than $720,000 of grant funding will be distributed to six regional tourism partners, also known as Destination Marketing Organizations, to develop and enhance rural and under-visited tourism opportunities. The grant funding is provided through Commerce’s Regional Assistance Program.

Cities are ranked by the dollar change in the Zillow Home Values Index for all homes from the 12 months ending May 2024.

July 11th, 2024 - Helena, MT. Owner of Springfield coffee house dies while fighting fire in Montana. Juliana Turchetti, the pilot with a warm smile who spent her mornings in Springfield running the Aviatori Coffee House on North Logan Street, died while combating the Horse Gulch Fire in Montana on July 10. Turchetti was 45.
July 12th, 2024 - Helena, MT. Montana governor Greg Gianforte and the Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) announced the state secured a nearly $2 million investment to provide workforce retraining and support services for workers impacted by the closures of Pyramid Lumber in Seeley Lake and Roseburg Forest Products in Missoula.

Montana Weights and Measures at Costco fuel stop
The Weights and Measures Bureau implements rules around licensing, inspecting, testing, and certifying all weighing or measuring devices used in commercial transactions in the State of Montana.
Weights and Measures administers a program which registers companies and individuals who inspect, calibrate and repair weighing and measuring devices. In addition, the Bureau enforces laws and regulations pertaining to quantity control of prepackaged goods (net contents) and quality control of petroleum products (Octane). Finally, the program runs the state standards lab and maintains the state standards of mass and volume which are used to calibrate standards used in the state for testing commercial devices.

Large Swings
Soybean prices in the US fell to $11.10 per bushel down -7.27% last week, the lowest since November 2020, driven by ample supply and weak export demand.
Palladium fell -6.50% last week.
Arabica coffee futures surged to around $2.5 per pound, nearing a two-year high of nearly $2.5 reached in April, due to supply constraints caused by sluggish exports from Vietnam and weather-related issues. Coffee futures were up 8.07% last week up over 53% year over year.

Montana has been mostly clear of smoke up until last weekend (July 6th and 7th) most smoke appears to be coming from Northern CA and Eastern OR.
